Heath was beautiful, in a rugged, manly way. He was our Australian bad boy long before he played Ned Kelly. All brooding and dark, you wanted to know what was going on in that head of his, behind those intense dark eyes. And how hot was dirty blonde hair, and the crooked, sly smile? Oh, and The Scruff! Heellloooo chin rash, sore lips and chaffed inner thighs.

He was fucking brilliant. Many thought he was just a pretty face, but not us. We saw The Four Feathers. We remember A Knight’s Tale. We weren’t surprised by his performance in Brokeback Mountain opposite Jake Gyllenhaal (titillated yes, surprised, no). We saw how great he was all along and when everyone else got on board the Heath Ledger train? We’d already taken our seats and were wondering what kept them.

He was a devoted daddy. Even if you don’t like kids, not only could this adorable little thing make you change your mind, but you know there’s no better combination of sexy and sweet than a man who loves his baby. And he did.

Wait, wait, lets go back to his talent. Did you see The Dark Knight? No? Well, here’s the condensed version. Now - you see it, right? The brilliance? He deserved that fucking Oscar, and you shut your fucking mouth if you disagree. You’d be his Harley Quinn in a heartbeat, you know it.

Remember this? God knows Julia Stiles said everything you felt by the end of that movie. She spoke for us all. *sigh*

My 7 year old knows that there will be a gun (magazine out, no round in the chamber) in my room because it’s my job. If she wants to see it or hold it then I show her how we check that it’s unloaded and then we talk about it. She knows what can happen with a gun whether it’s intended or accidental. If a friend of hers comes over, I put it in my safe and it’s not discussed. I stress to her that if she ever comes across one somewhere else to be level headed and get the attention of an adult and not let anyone near it. I grew up completely scared of guns and until I started working in law enforcement I couldn’t tell you the difference between a “little gun” and a “big gun”. So I get shit from both sides. So should I not teach her about guns and let an accident happen? Or teach her about them and her become a militant radical?

I’ve found that more times than not, those that don’t “like” guns are incapable of understanding there are people that are responsible. TAKE ALL THE GUNS AWAYS! SHOUTY SHOUTY!

My dad did the exact same thing to OP did. I grew up knowing how to be responsible and respectful of firearms so that if I ever found one I wouldn’t do anything stupid that could get me or someone else killed. Plus, I also knew (when I was older) what to do if I REALLY needed to defend myself from someone breaking into our home (God forbid this ever happens because I don’t know if I have the guts to pull that trigger). I think he did the right thing, personally; and I will most likely be the same way with my kids. Part of responsibility is education, they need to know what they’re dealing with so that dangerous things don’t happen. If they’re going to use a gun the wrong way, well…chances are they would have learned how to use one on their own from someone who wouldn’t teach them how to be responsible and safe.
